Movember

The “Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness month of October has ended and now we are onto Movember. If you are unfamiliar with Movember, I will explain the basics. The idea for Movember came about over a beer, as most good ideas do! Two guys in Australia began discussing recurring fashion trends and the conversation turned to the mustache; once a fixture but now a thing of the past. They joked about bringing it back. Inspired by a friends mother who was fundraising for breast cancer, the guys decided to design a campaign around men’s health and prostate cancer.

For the 30 days of November, men around the world will be growing and sporting all sorts of mustaches to secure sponsorship donations for the Movember Foundation. The Foundation's mission is the only one of its kind tackling men's health on a global scale. The Foundation is transforming the way research into men's health is done and the way health services reach and support men. The Foundation specifically focuses on increasing awareness and researching cures to prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health and suicide prevention.

I have to admit, I am not a facial hair enthusiast, but for the month of November I am completely 100% on board. I applaud the creative efforts these guys designed in the hopes of effecting real change. Current cancer statistics are baffling….just today I read that 1-2 men and 1-3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime!

So…to those brave men out there, the MSP girls wish you happy growing!
